Mekons have announced Horror, their first album in five years and first for Fire Records. It’s out April 4. The band, which now includes Lu Edmonds (PiL, The Damned), wrote these songs in 2022 but recorded the album more recently in Valencia, Spain on borrowed instruments.
The album includes last year’s single “You’re Not Singing Anymore,” and they’ve just shared “Mudcrawlers,” which is as stirring and anthemic as you’d expect from Jon Langford, Sally Timms and the fest of Mekons, but this writer at least has never heard them do it quite like this before. (There’s more than a little ’80s indie/”college rock” in there.) It’s terrific and you can listen to the song, and watch a trailer for the album below.
Mekons will be on tour this year, including a summer trek across the US with two NYC-area shows: NYC’s Bowery Ballroom on July 17 and Jersey City’s White Eagle Hall on July 18. All dates are listed below.
