The third and final volume of The Go-Betweens‘ G Stands for Go-Betweens anthology box sets will be out December 13 via Domino. Vol 3, which features four vinyl LPs and seven CDs, covers 2000-2006 when Grant McLennan and Robert Forster reformed the band after breaking up in 1989. It includes their final three albums: 2000’s The Friends Of Rachel Worth, 2003’s Bright Yellow Bright Orange, and their final album, 2005’s Oceans Apart. All three have been remastered and Oceans Apart has also been remixed by original producer Mark Wallis. Pre-orders are available now.
G Stands For Go-Betweens: Volume 3 2000-2006 includes a fourth vinyl LP, Nachtmix 99. featuring acoustic radio session Forster and McLennan recorded for Bayern 2 Radio in Munich while on tour promoting the Bellavista Terrace compilation. The seven CDs include B-sides, radio sessions and rare, hard-to-find and unreleased demos, including a collection of 14 unreleased songs the duo recorded together in 1991. There’s also a 112-page book featuring photos and extensive liner notes from Robert Forster, along with essays and remembrances from fans and friends.
Like they did with the first two box sets, the first 421 orders of Vol 3 come with a book from the personal library of the late Grant McLennan (who died of a heart attack in 2006) along with a bookmark signed by Forster.
The original release of Oceans Apart had a notoriously bad, distorted mix/master, so here’s hoping they’ve corrected things with this new mix. The Friends of Rachel Worth, which was made in Portland and features Sleater-Kinney and Quasi as their backing band, is one of The Go-Betweens’ best albums. (Bright Orange, Bright Yellow is terrific, too.) All three of their 2000s albums have been out of print since their original release.
