For over 15 years, Cincinnati’s The Dopamines have been making the kind of raw, snappy, gritty pop punk that existed before “pop punk” fully became mainstream music. If you’ve never hopped on the Dopamines train but you’re into anything from classic Lookout! Records to Dillinger Four to The Ergs! (whose Mikey Erg has acted as The Dopamines’ touring guitarist in the past), you’re missing out. They’ll release their first album in over seven years, 80/20, on October 18 via Rad Girlfriend Records (pre-order), and speaking of Lookout!, it was produced by longtime Green Day affiliate Chris Dugan. They just released two lead singles, “For Heaven’s Sake Pt. 2” and “The Doctor,” and both are serious rippers that find this band sounding as fiery as ever. Guitarist/vocalist Jon Lewis tells us:
If you heard the full story of the 72 hours that inspired this song, you would refuse to believe any of it was true. It involves all of your favorite bands. Spans 3-5 countries. Bridges tested and bridges burned, literally fueled by hot gin and blood. No creative license to be found within the 5 minute snapshot of the actual moment this band unapologetically fell apart. Blew the routine, stuck the landing, and blamed all of you on the way out. We had a marvelous time ruining everything.
