Someone alert the clerks at Championship Vinyl, it looks like late-’90s/early-’00s indie greats The Beta Band are getting back together. The Scottish group, who called it quits in 2004 after touring for their third album Heroes to Zeros, started official social media accounts in early February and relaunched their website with a mailing list form; once subscribed, they write “We’ll be in touch soon.”
Then this week, The Beta Band and frontman Steve Mason shared videos on their socials of a flight case with the group’s logo on it washed up on the shore of a beach while the guitar riff from their song “It’s Not Too Beautiful” plays and a masked stranger walks up to the case. What does it all mean? If it is a tour, it would be their first shows in 20 years. Watch below.
The Beta Band are best known for The Three EPs, which was famously used in the film adaptation of High Fidelity — “I will now sell five copies of The Three EPs by The Beta Band” — but the rest of their discography is worth checking out too.
