Taylor Swift’s ‘Tortured Poets Department’ is a surprise double album ft. Post Malone & Florence Welch

Taylor Swift‘s anticipated new album The Tortured Poets Department has officially arrived, and you can stream it below. Along with the 16-track album, which features Post Malone on “Fortnite” and Florence + The Machine on “Florida!!!,” Taylor dropped 15 more tracks around 2 AM, revealing Tortured Poets is actually a 2+ hour double album. “It’s a 2am surprise,” she wrote on Twitter, The Tortured Poets Department is a secret DOUBLE album. ✌️ I’d written so much tortured poetry in the past 2 years and wanted to share it all with you, so here’s the second installment of TTPD: The Anthology. 15 extra songs. And now the story isn’t mine anymore… it’s all yours.”

Taylor worked with regular collaborators Jack Antonoff (Bleachers) and Aaron Dessner (The National) on the album, and it also features Rob Moose; Thomas Barlett (aka Doveman); Aaron’s brother and The National bandmate Bryce Dessner; Jack’s Bleachers bandmates Zem Audu, Mikey Freedom Hart, Sean Hutchinson, Michael Riddleberger, and Evan Smith; Wilco drummer Glenn Kotche; and more.

On Instagram, Aaron wrote, “We started working on these songs over two years ago and it feels like they have kept us company and evolved in beautiful and unexpected ways through so much life lived during this process. It’s hard to believe Taylor and I have now recorded over 60 songs together (17 across this anthology!!) in the 4 years since we began working together on Folklore in 2020. I am forever grateful to Taylor for sharing her insane talents with and trusting me with her music. I believe these songs are some of the most lyrically acute, intricate, vulnerable and cathartic Taylor has ever written and I am continually astonished by her skills as a songwriter and performer.” Read his message in full below.

“Fortnite” is the first single off the album, with a video due to arrive at 8 PM ET tonight. “I’ve been such a huge fan of Post because of the writer he is, his musical experimentation and those melodies he creates that just stick in your head forever,” Taylor says. “I got to witness that magic come to life firsthand when we worked together on ‘Fortnight.'” Watch a trailer for the video below.

Ahead of the album’s release, Taylor also wrote, “The Tortured Poets Department. An anthology of new works that reflect events, opinions and sentiments from a fleeting and fatalistic moment in time – one that was both sensational and sorrowful in equal measure. This period of the author’s life is now over, the chapter closed and boarded up. There is nothing to avenge, no scores to settle once wounds have healed. And upon further reflection, a good number of them turned out to be self-inflicted. This writer is of the firm belief that our tears become holy in the form of ink on a page. Once we have spoken our saddest story, we can be free of it. And then all that’s left behind is the tortured poetry.”
