We haven’t had any new solo music from Sufjan Stevens since his fantastic 2023 album Javelin, but he’s been busy contributing to other’s projects (John Legend’s children’s album included), and he’s now joined French indie folk artist Mina Tindle on her new single “Heaven Thunder.” Bryce Dessner of The National, Mina’s partner, contributed acoustic guitar, electric guitar, piano, synths, bass programming, and string arrangements, and in addition to singing on the track, Sufjan contributed piano, synths, and beat programming. Sufjan also just turned 50 on Tuesday (7/1), and to celebrate there’s a new custom Carrie & Lowell-inspired Polaroid 600 camera, which was created with Retrospekt. The powder blue exterior reads “We’re all gonna die, say cheese!,” and it has a 110mm f/10 lens, a build-in flash with manual override, an electronic shutter with automatic shutter speeds of 1/3 to 1/200th second, and automatic exposure control with a manual +/- 1EV lighten/darken slider.
