Redondo Beach’s Modern Color (whose drummer Vince Nguyen is also in Militarie Gun) have just released their fourth album and first in four years, There Goes The Dream (Other People Records), and finds the band making a pretty clear step forward. Produced, mixed, and mastered by Corey Coffman of Gleemer, it’s the cleanest-sounding Modern Color album yet, and it’s got some of their strongest songs too (like 2023 single “Fortress”). It largely finds them offering up Title Fight-style shoegaze/post-hardcore hybrids, but they also bring a jazzy touch to some of the songs and branch out into somber acoustic territory on penultimate track “Night Swim.” It’s a cool record and you can stream the full thing below.
Modern Color play three West Coast release shows this weekend, followed by a Riverside, CA show with Coheed & Cambria, and then they’ll open Drug Church‘s fall tour (alongside Soul Blind and PONY), including a NYC show at Brooklyn Monarch on October 24 and Richmond’s LTC Fest (also with Fleshwater, Anxious, Praise, and more).
