Fort Myers, FL’s See Through Person are (presumably) named after a Glocca Morra song, so it probably comes as no surprise that they make the kind of scrappy, shouty, mathy emo that was born in the ’90s and revived on a widespread level in the late 2000s and early 2010s. And, along with the new albums by Oolong and Ogbert the Nerd, their new LP Every Way of Living is helping make 2024 a very good year for this kind of thing. It’s their first full-length, following two great EPs (2020’s Chariot and 2021’s Sun), and it makes very good on the promise of those early releases. It’s raw and scrappy and filled with noodly guitar heroism, but they’ve also got some really tuneful hooks beneath the noisy exterior. The band tells us:
Every Way of Living is an album about trying to find yourself and experiencing every way of living you can. Struggling with gender identity and then transitioning, leaving long term old relationships to meet new people, moving geographically. The record reads as a diary chronicling specific moments in time as you try new things and experiences to try to learn who you are and what your place in the world is.
