Cleveland’s Brain Cave are releasing a new LP, Foot Off the Gas, on February 16 via Head2Wall and The Ghost Is Clear Records (pre-order). Having recently released two singles (“Neologism” and “Midnight Push”), we’re now premiering third single “Death Weapons.” Brain Cave make the kind of noisy, shouty post-hardcore that came out on labels like AmRep and Touch & Go in the ’90s, and on “Death Weapons,” they take that sound in a slower, more melodic direction than usual, as drummer/producer Matthew Ducey explains:
This is definitely one of my all-time favorites from our time together as a band. We leaned more into a slow and steady vibe on this one, which serves as a nice palette cleanse from our usual fast and noisy formula. Going into the studio, we intentionally kept this song sparse with the idea that it would kind of tell us what it wanted to be, and honestly, it surpassed my expectations. Our good friend Zac Breitbach (Dogs Run Free, ex-Honeymoon) helped us put together the vocal harmonies and layers, and it really elevates the whole experience, I think. I hope people dig it.
We definitely dig it, and we think that if you like any type of loud, heavy, melodic rock music, you will too. Listen below.
