Back in 2020, ska-core bands Still Alive and Stuck Lucky put out Facing Reality, a split LP that holds up as one of the best LPs in this subgenre in recent memory. Last month, Stuck Lucky followed it with a new EP, and now Still Alive have a new EP on the way too. It’s called Voices and it comes out digitally next week (9/19) via Bad Time Records.
The band says that they’ve been slowly working on a new full-length that might not be out for another few years, so they recorded this EP to bridge the gap. “The first track, ‘I Quit,’ is dedicated to the worst boss you’ve worked for,” vocalist/guitarist Dan Alfonsi tells us. “It’s about scraping by with your co-workers while they flaunt a lavish lifestyle. They say you’re on the same team, but the workload and paychecks say otherwise. Finally, it’s about coming to terms with that realization and knowing it’s time to go.”
“I Quit” features guest bass playing by Rich Tschirhart of The Suicide Machines, and the song “Hell On Earth” also features guest bass playing by Chuck Vroom of The Code. The EP was recorded and mixed by Justin Yates. Listen to “I Quit” below.
Still Alive play the Sunday of The Fest at High Dive with Against All Authority (doing a Devo cover set), Mustard Plug, Folly (playing “classic ska/punk bangers”), Devon Kay & the Solutions (playing “the hits”), Flying Raccoon Suit, Omnigone, S.M.N., Free Kick, The Best of the Worst, Thirsty Guys, Hans Gruber and the Die Hards, and Millington.
Dan also plays in the metallic hardcore band Cult Fiend who put out a new EP earlier this summer.
