Most of this decade, Stephen Malkmus has been busy with his groups Pavement and The Hard Quartet, but it looks like he’s going to be getting a little alone time this year, at least musically. He’s announced a short West Coast tour, hitting California cities Ventura, Big Sur, Sonoma, Sacramento, and Santa Cruz the first week of September. Tickets are on sale.
Malkmus was supposed to tour for 2020 solo album Traditional Techniques but that trek was a casualty of the pandemic. Will this be a redo of that or will he be debuting songs from a new album? Stay tuned.
Pavement just played the 2026 Mosswood Meltdown pre-party, where their set included a cover of “Stairway to Heaven,” have East Coast dates this month and play Atlanta’s Shaky Knees in September.
