Steely Dan‘s 1979 crown jewel Aja is getting a new vinyl reissue on September 29 via Geffen/UMe. This new edition is remastered from non-EQ’d analog tape copies of the album — the original tapes are believed to be lost — with the band’s Donald Fagen overseeing the process by remastering engineer Bernie Brundman, who has done all the recent Dan reissues.
There will be a standard 33 1/3 RPM edition as well as a double-LP 45 RPM Ultra High-Quality Vinyl edition out via Analogue Productions, who are also putting Aja out on Super Audio CD (SACD).
Aja includes the hits “Peg” and “Deacon Blues,” along with Black Cow, “Josie,” and more. It’s the latest in Steely Dan’s vinyl reissue series (Pretzel Logic was released in July.) You can listen to the original (non-remastered) album below.
Steely Dan will be opening Eagles’ final tour this fall, including a number of NYC-area shows.
