Across their first two EPs, St. Louis band Squint have built up a reputation as one of the most promising new bands amidst the current wave of hardcore/alt-rock crossover, and now they’ve released a single produced by a person who’s worked with lots of bands in that world, Jon Markson (Drug Church, One Step Closer, Koyo, etc). It’s called “Magic,” and it’s a chunky, anthemic rock banger with a scream-sung delivery from Brennan Wilkinson that keeps the band’s hardcore roots on display.
Brennan says, “‘Magic’ explores one’s journey from the student to the teacher. The song begins with the subject in awe of a magician and ends with himself on stage doing the tricks. Using magic as a metaphor for the illusion and entertainment of being a musician, the song shows our subject’s pupil-to-mentor pipeline.” Check it out below. The band says there’s more to come soon.
