A private memorial was held for Prince last night at the Samuel Goldwyn Theatre in Beverly Hills, California. As reported by Billboard, the service was organized by ex wives Manuela Testolini and Mayte Garcia and was opened by a version of “Sometimes it Snows in April” by keyboardist Greg Phillinganes, and also included performances by Esperanza Spalding and Janelle Monae, while Spike Lee (who was literally dressed head-to-toe in purple), Nile Rodgers, Mavis Staples and other offered tributes.
Billboard also reports that Spike Lee, who threw a block party tribute the night Prince died, said there will be another memorial in Brooklyn on June 7, which would have been Prince’s 58th birthday. Stay tuned for details.
