Snail Mail shares cover of The Smashing Pumpkins’ “Tonight, Tonight”

Snail Mail‘s Lindsay Jordan has a significant part in writer-director Jane Schoenbrun‘s recent A24 film I Saw the TV Glow, and she also recorded a song for its stacked soundtrack. Her cover of The Smashing Pumpkins‘ “Tonight, Tonight” was previously exclusive to vinyl, but it’s now out on streaming services, and you can hear it below.

“This all came together really serendipitously,” Jordan says. “We had been working on this cover to play on the Valentine tour, before I got the part. It came up early on because I have a tattoo on my right arm of the man in the moon to commemorate the first ever science fiction film, A Trip to the Moon and the Smashing Pumpkins’ video for ‘Tonight, Tonight.’ While reading the script, I discovered the arch nemesis of the Pink Opaque is inspired by the same imagery. I told Jane we were doing this cover in NYC, they came and saw it live, and the rest was herstory.”

Snail Mail will be on tour on the East Coast in August and September, including a free NYC show at SummerStage in Central Park on August 27 with Tim Heidecker and Fenne Lily. She also supports Waxahatchee on a few dates, including Asbury Park’s Stone Pony Summer Stage on September 1. See all dates below.
