After Sinéad O’Connor passed away last year, her death was ruled as the result of “natural causes,” and now more details about her cause of death have been revealed. The Irish Independent reports that her death certificate was formally registered by her former husband John Reynolds, and that it reveals Sinéad died from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asthma.
The cause of death is noted on the certificate as “exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and bronchial asthma together with low grade lower respiratory tract infection.” The article adds that her death was certified by Julian Morris, senior coroner for Inner South London, after a post-mortem examination without an inquest.
The news coincided with the one-year anniversary of Sinéad’s death (July 26). Also in conjunction with the anniversary, Dublin’s National Wax Museum Plus revealed a wax museum of Sinéad and then apologized and removed it due to backlash. A statement from the museum said that they “acknowledge that the current representation did not meet our high standards or the expectations of Sinead’s devoted fans. We have listened closely to the reactions and agree that the figure does not fully capture Sinéad’s unique presence and essence as we intended.”
