Last year saw the inception of the new underground rock supergroup Hard Chiller–whose lineup is From Indian Lakes leader Joe Vann on vocals, Steve Choi (RX Bandits, The Sound of Animals Fighting, The Chinkees, etc) on guitar, Roger Camero (No Motiv, The Warriors, etc) on bass, and Casey Deitz (The Velvet Teen) on drums (so basically Peace’d Out with Joe Vann singing instead of The Movielife/I Am the Avalanche’s Vinnie Caruana)–and their four-song debut EP Heavy Cell was enough for us to name them one of 10 punk supergroups doing great stuff right now. Fortunately, there’s more where that came from. They just announced their debut full-length album, BABY!, due August 1 via Born Losers Records (pre-order).
The first single is “Hotboxhead,” which takes the Deftones/Hum/Smashing Pumpkins vibes of the EP and puts a faster spin on it. Steve Choi says, “Joey’s vocals are able to give everything wings, so I wanted some head-nod vibes being lifted by his melodies. The working title for this song was ‘lofty’ because this chorus elevates my mood.” It’s a great track, and it comes with a video that you can check out below.
Hard Chiller will also be opening the West Coast dates on fellow RX Bandits-related, Born Losers-signed supergroup The Sound of Animals Fighting‘s fall tour, which also includes This Will Destroy You and The Casket Lottery on all dates. (The East Coast/Southwest dates, which include NYC’s Webster Hall on October 5, are with Soft Blue Shimmer instead of Hard Chiller.) All Hard Chiller dates are listed below.
