Sexual assault allegations against Zex’s Jo Capitalcide retracted by label

Zex

Brent Eyestone of Magic Bullet Records retracted allegations of sexual assault he published against Jo Capitalcide of Canadian punk band Zex, as Pitchfork reports. The allegations, which Eyestone claimed he received by email, were posted on Magic Bullet’s website, along with a statement dropping Zex from the label, and later deleted. Capitalcide, Zex’s guitarist, opened a defamation lawsuit against the label in October of 2017, saying, “concerning the allegations of sexual assault on women made by our ex record label, Magic Bullet Records, I denounce them as false and have undertaken a defamation lawsuit this week for spreading false information about me and Zex. There are no charges laid on me.”

In his statement, Eyestone writes:

In September 2017, I published a statement on the website of Magic Bullet Records and on Facebook, in which I made certain allegations about “Jo Capitalcide”, guitarist of the band Zex. My statement was later republished on social media and by various news outlets including Pitchfork, CBC and The Star. Upon reflection, I hereby retract these allegations without reservation. The statements that I made were unverified and I regret any impact such statements may have had on Capitalicide and Zex.

I am also pleased to announce that the litigation commenced by Jo Capitalcide against Magic Bullet Records and me has been resolved and we have all agreed to put this matter behind us.

Magic Bullet Records “effectively came to a close at the end of 2017,” a statement on their website now reads:

As of this writing, the dissolution papers have been turned in and are being processed in the state where we incorporated, stock/inventory was liquidated, all creditors were taken care of, and any meager assets left over were donated to favorite charities that we’ve supported all along the way. None of the company’s principals took a payout, per the operating principles that guided the way all along. That’s officially a wrap
