Rosalía‘s new album LUX is out next week and while she’s still keeping the tracklist under wraps, she has just shared a few details and a song from it: “Berghain,” featuring Björk and Yves Tumor. You can watch the video below.
If the word “Berghain” conjures up visions of hardcore techno and clubs where they put tape over your phone camera, well, this is not that. Instead, this “Berghain” is full-on opera, with Rosalía backed by an orchestra. The video, directed by Nicolas Méndez, spends the day with Rosalía and whether it’s trips on the bus, doing the ironing at home, or going to the store that orchestra is right there with her. It gets a little freaky too, with nightmare nods to Snow White and more.
According to an interview in The New York Times, sings in 13 different languages on LUX including her native Spanish, Catalan, English, Latin, Sicilian, Ukrainian, Arabic, German and more. The album features the London Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Daníel Bjarnason, and in addition to Björk and Yves Tumor, it features contributions from Portuguese fado singer Carminho, Spanish flamenco artist Estrella Morente, Spanish singer Silvia Pérez Cruz, US sierreño trio Yahritza, and the Escolania de Montserrat i Orfeó Català choir.
