Who would have guessed when the year started that The Cure‘s Robert Smith would end up on new albums from Olivia Rodrigo and The Rolling Stones? The Olivia Rodrigo duet, “What’s Wrong With Me,” is very charming and now we can hear the Stones song.
Robert Smith is not anywhere near as prominent on the Stones’ “Divine Intervention” as he is on the Olivia song as he only plays guitar. If you didn’t know he was there, you probably wouldn’t guess it on this bluesy boogie rock number that also features keyboards from Steve Winwood. This is actually one of two songs from Foreign Tongues that Smith appears on.
Also released today is “Jealous Lover,” a track more on the laid back, “Waitin’ on a Friend” tip. It also comes with a video starring Anya Taylor-Joy (The Queen’s Gambit) and Charles Melton (Beef S2) that is currently available exclusively on Amazon Music, but you can watch the YouTube lyric video below.
The Rolling Stones’ new album Foreign Tongues, which also has Paul McCartney on it, is out July 10 and you can preorder it on vinyl and CD in the BV shop.
We might also get a new Cure album this year too. We’ll wait and see.
