Goldmine is celebrating The Rolling Stones with a new special edition book that looks back on their early history, from 1963-1966. It’s 12″x12″ (the perfect size to file next to your Stones records), 100 pages long in full color, and tells the story of how they got together and where they went from there along with photos, album art, and memorabilia. The book is available for pre-order both on its own and as part of a limited edition, numbered box set with 180-gram vinyl pressings of the US edition of their first three albums: 1964 debut, England’s Newest Hit Makers; 1964’s 12×5 (on exclusive gold vinyl); and 1965’s Now!; as well as their first live album released in the US, Got Live If You Want It!. Those early Stones records are covers-heavy, home to the band’s classic renditions of “Time Is On My Side,” “It’s All Over Now,” “Not Fade Away,” and more, but they’re also home to some early gems of the Jagger/Richards songwriting partnership like “Heart of Stone,” “Tell Me,” and “Good Times, Bad Times.” Their rivalry with The Beatles would inspire them to ditch the covers and go in a more album-oriented direction on 1966’s Aftermath, but these early records remain a fascinating look into the earliest days of one of the world’s greatest bands, and their staying power is undeniable.
