Following news of the iconic Sinéad O’Connor‘s death at 56 years old, fellow musicians and others have been posting tributes to social media.

Peter Gabriel, who dueted with her twice on his 1992 album, Us, wrote, “Sinéad was an extraordinary talent. She could move us with a candour and a passion with which so many people connected. The path she chose was always difficult and uncompromising but at every turn she would show her spirit and her courage. I feel lucky to have had the chance to work with her.”

The The’s Matt Johnson, who dueted with O’Connor on “Kingdom of Rain” for his band’s 1989 album Mind Bomb, wrote, “Very sad to hear the news about Sinead O’Connor. My memories from our collaboration on ‘Kingdom of Rain’ – a beautiful young woman, wryly humorous, fiercely intelligent and independent with a soul searing voice. R.I.P.”

Former PiL bassist Jah Wobble, who played on Sinéad’s I Do Not Want What I Haven’t Got, had his biggest solo hit with his 1992 collab with O’Connor, “Visions of You.” He wrote, “Sinead singing on ‘visions of you’ , was a huge act of generosity. Typical of her. Refused to take a penny for the session. That track had a massive positive influence on my life. From writing the track with her voice in mind, through to recording it was transcendental.”
