Ever since Radiohead returned from a hiatus last year to play their first shows in 7 years, which were all in Europe, people have been wondering if a wider tour was in the works too. Turns out the answer is yes… eventually. Guitarist Ed O’Brien announced a new solo album today, and talked to Rolling Stone about it. They also asked him if Radiohead would play more shows, and he told them, “it’s definitely happening. What we’re going to do is, every year we’re going to do a different continent, and we’re going to do 20 shows each year. No more, no less.
O’Brien told Rolling Stone that the shows will commence in 2027, saying, “we won’t do anything this year, but we’ll do something next year.” About the 20 show limit, he added, “We want to give absolutely everything each night. We do not ever want it to be like we’re going through the motions or we’re having to run on empty. We’ve got to be able to do it. And you know what? We’re not spring chickens anymore.”
O’Brien also told Rolling Stone that he’d questioned whether Radiohead had a future, saying he was “done” with the band after their 2018 tour. “It was kind of scary at first,” he said. “I really thought that was it on Radiohead. Actually, I sort of got off on that. I was just, ‘I’m done with it. I want another life.'”
