Cult legend and godfather of home recording R. Stevie Moore has been insanely active and prolific for over half a century, but sadly his career is coming to an end. As Indieheads just pointed out, R. Stevie announced his retirement on his website on New Year’s Eve:

R STEVIE MOORE ANNOUNCES:
ON TUESDAY 12/31/2019, THE END IS HERE. ABSOLUTELY NO FURTHER SONG WRITING, RECORDING, PERFORMING, TRAVELLING, INTERVIEWS. 50 YEAR SHELF DATE. IT ALL SCREECHES TO A STOP JUST IN TIME FOR GROUND ZERO 2020. THERE WILL BE NO THIRD YOUTH. HAS BECOME UNBURDENED. STRICTLY A LEGACY ACT.

Bummer! He seemed like someone who would never retire. Best of luck to you with whatever you do next, R. Stevie Moore.

His most recent — and now final — album is last year’s Fake News Trending, a collaboration with fellow cult legend Gary Wilson.
