“Quarantine raves” in Manchester leave one dead, three stabbed

Although Germany hosted the first major drive-in rave of the coronavirus pandemic in late April, it’s likely going to be a while before it’s safe to attend raves in person, minus some sort of protective suit. That didn’t stop thousands from attending two separate raves that happened in Greater Manchester over the weekend, though, BBC reports. One illegal rave, at Daisy Nook Country Park, hosted around 4000 people, and the other in Carrington, hosted around 2000, police said. You can see footage, “quarantine rave” sign included, below.

Along with the risk of coronavirus transmission, BBC reports that the Carrington rave was marred by violence and the death of an attendee, a 20-year-old man, from a suspected drug overdose. Police said three people were stabbed, one of whom, an 18-year-old man, suffered “life-threatening injuries.” A 25-year-old man was arrested because of suspicion that he possessed a weapon, and police said they were also “investigating the rape of an 18-year-old woman.”

Assistant Chief Constable Chris Sykes told the BBC that officers “were met with violence, resulting in items being thrown and a police car being vandalised.”

Volunteers helped the Oldham Council clean the massive amounts of garbage left over at the Daisy Nook location on Sunday morning, as you can see in the pictures below.

Speaking to BBC 5 Live, one attendee said he went to Daisy Nook after “listening to guidelines for three months” He continued, “I’ve not been around a group of people in a long time so I thought I might as well this week. I just went for a good time…I’m not really scared of the virus but I don’t know anyone who has had it so I didn’t think of that.”
