Pulp kicked off their North American tour on Thursday night at The Tabernacle in Atlanta. Jarvis Cocker seems to have put away the corduroy for this trip, and was looking sharp in a suave blue suit on opening night. While they’re on the road supporting their great new album More, they opened the show with a killer one-two punch from Different Class, “Sorted for E’s and Wizz” and the banger “Disco 2000,” and then dug into the new album with “Spike Island.”
The Tabernacle setlist is hard to argue with, featuring six songs from Different Class, five from More, four from His n’ Hers, three from This is Hardore, and a few deep cuts like “O.U. (Gone, Gone)” and “Like a Friend” from the Great Expectations soundtrack. The main set closed with a trio of disco-friendly anthems: More‘s “Got to Have Love,” “Babies,” and “Common People.”
They then returned for an extended encore of “The Fear,” “Lipgloss,” “Help the Aged,” “Like a Friend,” and finally the new album’s “A Sunset,” which Jarvis dedicated to nature (“It’s good”). Check out the full setlist and fan-shot video from the Tabernacle show below.
Pulp next play DC on Saturday, Philly on Tuesday and then NYC’s Forest Hills Stadium on Thursday (9/11). The tour, which features Hamilton Leithauser of The Walkmen on most shows, wraps up with two nights at the Hollywood Bowl that are co-headlined by LCD Soundsystem. All dates are listed below.
