Pixies have announced the departure of Paz Lenchantin, who joined the band as a touring member in 2014 to replace Kim Shattuck (who replaced founding bassist Kim Deal). Paz appeared on three of the band’s albums, 2016’s Head Carrier, 2019’s Beneath the Eyrie, and 2022’s Doggerel; before joining Pixies she played on albums by A Perfect Circle, Zwan, Silver Jews, and more.
Emma Richardson, formerly of Band of Skulls, will replace Paz, starting with Pixies’ Dublin show this Friday (3/8).
A message from the band reads, “Paz Lenchantin, who joined Pixies in 2014, has exited the band to concentrate on her own projects. We’re grateful for Paz’s many contributions, and wish her all the very best going forward. We are delighted to welcome Emma Richardson on bass. Emma will make her worldwide touring debut with Pixies on the first night of the “Bossanova x Trompe le Monde” European tour, beginning this Friday in Dublin. See you on the road! UPDATE: In an email to Rolling Stone, Paz wrote, “It has been a dream of dreams these past 10 years to have been accepted as a Pixie by the band and by fans and an honor to have contributed to the Pixies legacy. My departure is a bit of a surprise to me as it is to many, but it looks like they have a solid plan figured out which in turn has pushed me to move onwards onto new projects that I am excited about.”
Pixies will be on tour with Modest Mouse and Cat Power in North America this June for the second summer in a row, including an NYC show at Forest Hills Stadium on June 15. They’ll also support Pearl Jam on tour in Australia and New Zealand in November, and you can see all of their upcoming dates below.
