Pale Saints’ ‘In Ribbons’ gets 30th anniversary 2-LP vinyl reissue; listen to “Kinky Love” demo

Shoegaze greats Pale Saints‘ fantastic second album, In Ribbons, is getting a 30th anniversary vinyl reissue on October 6 via 4AD. It’s the first vinyl pressing of the album since its original release, and will also be the first time it’s been available on vinyl in North America. The original album has been remastered and the double-LP set comes with a bonus disc featuring demos and The Tinwistle Band’s version of “A Thousand Stars Burst Open” and “A Revelation,” which came as a bonus 7″ with the original 1992 UK vinyl edition of the album.

Among those demos is their cover of Nancy Sinatra’s “Kinky Love,” which appeared on the Flesh Balloon EP. The studio version features Meriel Barham, but this version has bandleader Ian Masters on vocals. You can listen to that, and check out the reissue tracklist below.

Barham, who was a founding member of Lush, was a new addition — vocals and guitar — on In Ribbons, which added a wonderful new element to the band. You can read our retrospective on the album here and listen to the original album, and watch the videos for “Throwing Back the Apple” and their cover of Slapp Happy’s “Blue Flower,” below.
