Sydney’s Oslow are releasing their self-titled debut album this Friday (2/10) via Resist Records, and we’re premiering a stream of it in this post. It’s moody, atmospheric post-punk, kinda somewhere between Eagulls and Title Fight’s shoegazy Hyperview. Here’s what vocalist/bassist Dylan Farrugia tells us about the record:
Having previously released two EPs and a 7”, writing an album of 10 or more songs was a super new and exciting experience for us. We started really enthusiastically, punched out a couple of songs, and then sort of plateaued – so we took some time to think about how we wanted it to sound as a collection of songs rather than a bunch of riffs.
We wanted the record to be as honest a representation of our experiences as possible. If anything felt forced we scrapped it. In the music we wanted to keep it urgent, even in the quieter moments, making it coherent with the lyrical themes of the record. The record aims to capture the experience of recognising your ignorance and wanting to rectify that through any means possible; flailing, but wanting to do better for yourself and others.
Oslow, who have played shows in their home country with Title Fight, PUP, La Dispute, Balance & Composure and The Menzingers, have a free in-store there this Friday and an album release show in March.
