Montreal punks NOBRO are about to head to the US for NYC’s New Colossus festival this week, and Austin’s SXSW right after that. At New Colossus, they’ll play the BrooklynVegan showcase on Thursday (3/7) at Knitting Factory at Baker Falls. You can get in with a New Colossus badge or by getting tickets to just that show.
Ahead of the showcase, NOBRO have made us a list “10 badass songs that pump up the band before they play a show,” including tracks by FIDLAR, The Distillers, Curtis Mayfield, Lady Gaga, The Sonics, the title track of their own 2023 LP Set Your Pussy Free, and more. They told us a little bit about why they picked each song, and you can read on to see their full list.

FIDLAR – “West Coast”
First big tour we went on across the USA. We had a fucking blast and every night they played this song we we’re fucking pumped
The Distillers – “City Of Angels”
Just a sick punk rock song sang by the most badass woman out there. The Distillers has always been a huge influence for us.
Sylvan Esso – “Radio”
Such an efficient song with a rythmique chorus that is not too intense but groovy as fuck. I saw them live and even if they’re just two, they own the stage so much and the front singer is so captivating.
Curtis Mayfield – “Move On Up”
This song has been one of my favorite for a long time. Sick hooks and amazing rhythm section. And the breakdown in the middle makes you wanna shred your life away.
Riton, Kah-Lo, GEE LEE – “Fake ID” (Coke & Rum Remix)
No song pump me more than these keyboard chords with that 4 on the floor drum beat.
Lady Gaga – “Rain On Me” (ft. Ariana Grande)
Actually this song pumps me even more. I love pop music, Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande.
Lola Young – “Don’t Hate Me”
The groove and her voice just get me going, it was love at first listening.
Remi Wolf – “Liquor Store”
I discovered Remi Wolf with this song and since then l’ve been a fan. I keep trying to catch her on show but I always end up not being able to. Can’t wait for that day to come.
Roy Ayers Ubiquity – “Everybody Loves The Sunshine”
This song speaks volumes—it never fails to motivate me to tackle the day with renewed energy whenever I listen to it
The Sonics – “Psycho”
I used to dance a lot on that song when I was younger. It’s just a fun tune with a killer guitar lick.
NOBRO – “Set Your Pussy Free”
Our classic feminist anarchist anthem!
