Nilüfer Yanya has announced a remix EP of five songs from her recently-released new album My Method Actor, including ones by Empress Of, Boy Harsher, Jam City, MorMor x Lesser, and Anish Kuma. Nilüfer says:
Remixes are a beautiful thing! I find it an interesting challenge to hear the song back in a different way, it always makes me feel at first totally confused and upside down but then I get into it and I’m like wow I could have never ever imagined it this way. Hearing something made out of your own music by an artist you’re a genuine fan of is really special too and I feel like it opens your mind a bit about how you can treat your own music if you want to. As an artist who is not a producer, it’s also a lot of fun getting glimpses into these alternative universes.
The EP is due November 22 via Ninja Tune, and the Boy Harsher rework of “Just A Western” is out now. The gothy duo keep things brighter than their usual fare, and their synth-fueled version adds a new bounce to the song that pairs well with Nilüfer’s voice. The duo says, “We tried to lean into a Chris Isaak situation here. Nilüfer’s vocals are so smokey and cool but with a hint of sadness and longing. It was a real pleasure to take this apart and put it back together.” Listen and compare it to the original below.
