Montreal melodic hardcore band Spite House have signed to Pure Noise and announced their sophomore album, Desertion, which follows their 2022 self-titled debut LP (New Morality Zine) and comes out on September 12 (pre-order). The band have gained more than one comparison to Title Fight, and if you miss that band’s Shed/Floral Green days, you should give Spite House’s new single “Desert” a listen because it carries the torch for that sound well. It’s also a song with very personal, very heavy subject matter.
“It’s a snapshot of the morning I found out my dad had taken his own life and had to go back in my house to pack and leave, both literally and emotionally,” says vocalist/guitarist Max Lajoie, who also self-produced the album. “It’s the sound of emptiness and confusion–of standing in a place that used to feel like home and realizing it’s now abandoned.” Listen and watch the video below.
Speaking about the album overall, Max continues: “There’s nothing happy about these songs. They’re about trying to relive these tragic experiences so that I can try to not let them define me–so the sonics really needed to match that. I didn’t want to worry about songs sounding too dark or too aggressive.”
Spite House also have an upcoming Europe tour, followed by a Canada tour with The Dirty Nil and Heart Attack Man, and all of those dates are listed below as well.
