Mozart Estate, the current moniker of indie cult hero Lawrence (Felt, Denim, Go-Kart Mozart), will release a new album, Tower Block in a Jam Jar, on October 17 via Cherry Red. Since the last Mozart Estate album was released, Lawrence has gained more notoriety thanks to Street-Level Superstar: A Year With Lawrence, Will Hodgkinson’s fantastic, funny, poignant — and award-winning — 2024 book where he spends a year hanging out with the very eccentric musician. So this album was made as a primer, with Lawrence and his band re-recording Mozart Estate and Go-Kart Mozart songs for this new potential audience.
“This is an album for people who have never heard Mozart Estate or Go-Kart Mozart before,” Lawrence says. “It’s for people who picked up the book and got into me that way. If you’re one of those then this record will knock your socks off!!”
You can listen to the album’s opening song, “Summer is Here,” which was originally on Go-Kart Mozart’s 2005 album Tearing Up the Album Chart. It’s definitely a sonic upgrade from the original and you can listen below.
