Swedish artist Molly Nilsson is back with her 11th album, Un-American Activities, which will be released digitally on July 7 via Night School with physical editions due August 16.
The album was recorded in early 2024 in California at Villa Aurora, the former home of German Jewish author, poet and political activist Lion Feuchtwanger. The album is “a love note not only to the artist who was among the very first to be declared an ‘enemy of the state’ by the Nazi regime but also to both the eternal struggle he fought…it is also a double-pointed poison pen letter: a critique of the new forms of oppression wielded by her temporary adopted country of the USA but also an acknowledgement of the promise it always offers but never fulfils.”
The new single from the album is “Excalibur” which features the sort of big, anthemic chorus Molly is so good at. You can watch the video, co-directed by Nilsson and Txema Novello, along with another song off the album, “Palestine (Over the Rainbow),” below.
