Militarie Gun have stayed very busy since the release of their great 2023 album Life Under the Gun–including lots of touring, the Life Under the Sun EP, the new single “Thought You Were Waving,” and a Dazy collab–and now they’ve announced a new album, God Save the Gun. It comes out October 17 via Loma Vista, and we’ve got an exclusive translucent blue vinyl variant that’s limited to 300 copies. Main member Ian Shelton wrote the album with help from frequent collaborators like Phillip Odom, Dazy’s James Goodson, and MSPAINT’s Nick Panella, and it was produced by Riley MacIntyre, whose credits include Adele, Arlo Parks, The Kills, and more. Militarie Gun’s lineup has shifted a bit over the years and on this album Ian is joined by guitarists William Acuña and Kevin Kiley, bassist Waylon Trim, and drummer David Stalsworth. Ian says:
I’m well aware that being this vulnerable turns my personal trauma into a marketing hook for this album. But I’m fine with it, if not provoking it. Over the past couple years, as I spoke about addiction from the perspective of someone affected by it, I became the one struggling with it. There’s a farcical logic to entering a situation, fully knowing the consequences, and doing it anyway – but that’s where my head was when I started leaning on drinking.
The album includes “Thought You Were Waving,” as well as new single “B A D I D E A,” a gritty garage punk anthem that has Ian shouting the spelled-out song title with a tough swagger that would make Joey Ramone proud. It comes with a video directed by Ian himself, and he says:
I wanted to make a video that was a celebration of vices, a new iteration of yourself looking back at a moment you made a mistake while never truly reflecting. This was the most technically challenging video we’ve ever done and it only fits a song spelling out the words ‘bad idea.’
