Microwave announce new album ‘Let’s Start Degeneracy,’ share new song & video

After rolling out a string of singles that date back to spring of 2022, Microwave have now finally announced their fourth album, Let’s Start Degeneracy, which features all three recent singles (“Circling The Drain,” “Straw Hat,” and “Ferrari”) plus the just-released “Bored of Being Sad.” The album title comes from a conservative politician’s take on drugs in 1970 (and it also forms the acronym “LSD”) and, according to a press release, the lyrics are “loaded with revelations that partly came to vocalist/guitarist Nathan Hardy after experimenting with ayahuasca in Peru with drummer Timothy “Tito” Pittard.”

“It’s about letting go of attachments and behaviors that aren’t serving you, and trying to shake off your programming and not be motivated by fear and guilt and shame,” says Nathan. “It’s about learning to be happy and take care of yourself.”

Like some of the previous singles, “Bored of Being Sad” finds the band in lighter alternative rock territory compared to the new album’s heavier predecessor Death Is A Warm Blanket, and this song deals in part with the way sadness is often romanticized in the music world. Check out the song and its video below.

Microwave also gearing up for a headlining tour with Origami Angel, Heart Attack Man, and Carpool Tunnel, including a NYC show on June 5 at Brooklyn Steel. All dates are listed below.

Let’s Start Degeneracy comes out April 26 via Pure Noise. Pre-order it here.
