Fresh off announcing a massive tour earlier this week, Lord Huron have shared their first new song in two years, “Who Laughs Last.” Both the song and its video feature actress Kristen Stewart, who provides spoken word verses over the kind of dark, driving groove that sounds like something Lord Huron could’ve written for the Vide Noir album. When Ben Schneider’s own voice finally does come in, it’s for the kind of explosive chorus that would’ve fit on that album too. Anyone who missed the harder-hitting side of Lord Huron on 2021’s calmer Long Lost will probably be very happy with this one, but it’s not a return to form; it’s a step forward. About collaborating with Kristen Stewart, who’s worked on music videos before but apparently makes her recorded music debut on this song, Ben said, “I didn’t know Kristen previously but I’d been a big fan since seeing her work with Olivier Assayas, which my wife introduced me to. I kept hearing her voice when I was writing this song and just thought ‘what the hell, I’ll reach out and see,’ thinking it was a long shot. But she said she was interested so we met up and hit it off talking about books, movies and music. She immediately got what I was going for and had great ideas to boot. She’s just a great person and so creative and open. She added a lot to the video concept as well. It was the kind of collaboration you dream of, honestly.”
Kristen added, “I’ve always loved the band and immediately sparked to the manic drift of the song and to the mood. I love when a song is something you can kind of seep into and imagine.

Lord Huron will be playing shows celebrating the 10th anniversary of their 2015 sophomore album Strange Trails (home of their breakout hit “The Night We Met”) this May, including two nights at Red Rocks, and their newly-announced tour goes down in the summer, including a show at NYC’s Madison Square Garden on July 30 with Waxahatchee. Other dates on the tour have support from Feist, Kevin Morby, Lee Fields, Indigo De Souza, and S.G. Goodman. All dates are listed below.
