listen to Toro Y Moi’s new LP ‘Boo Boo’

Of all the artists associated with the late-’00s chillwave scene, Toro Y Moi has probably done the best job of staying interesting and current while still sounding like the guy who made “Still Sound.” Chaz Bundick, who is Toro Y Moi, really understands his vibe and can translate that through a variety of sounds — the new album is a great example of that. (So is the jazzy Chaz Bundick Meets the Mattson 2 record from earlier this year.) He’s still pulling from ’70s deep shag soft rock and ’80s lite R&B, but it’s fresh and appealing, thanks to superior songcraft and spot-on production/arrangements. The record really pops on lead single “Girl Like You,” slow jam “Windows” (which dips a toe into the autotune world), and the glittering “Mona Lisa.” The album’s out Friday, July 7 but you can stream the whole thing below.
