Listen to Miley Cyrus & David Byrne’s psychedelic 13-minute song “Lockdown”

Miley Cyrus was already embracing her classic rock side on this year’s Something Beautiful (which includes contributions from The War On Drugs, Brittany Howard, Alvvays, and others), and now she has released a deluxe edition with two bonus tracks, each of which feature rock legends. “Secrets” features Fleetwood Mac members Lindsey Buckingham & Mick Fleetwood and it fits right in with the bulk of Something Beautiful, while the David Byrne-featuring “Lockdown” is a 13-and-a-half minute psychedelic trip that stands out as a hypnotically strange outlier. (Though anyone who remembers Miley’s album with The Flaming Lips knows she’s gotten trippy before.)

It’s not Miley’s first time teaming up with David Byrne–they covered David Bowie’s “Let’s Dance” together for a 2023 New Year’s Eve special–and it’s not the only time David Byrne teamed up with a current pop star this year. He sung “Burning Down the House” with Olivia Rodrigo at Governors Ball. It’s also just been a busy year for David Byrne in general; he released his new album What Is The Sky? (which features Hayley Williams and St. Vincent) two weeks ago, he has another Hayley Williams collab coming for Netflix’s The Twits, he broke out “Psycho Killer” for the first time in 19 years on tour earlier this week, and he’s playing Coachella 2026.

Meanwhile, speaking of Lindsey Buckingham, his long-out-of-print (and long-not-on-streaming-services) pre-Fleetwood Mac album with Stevie Nicks as Buckingham Nicks finally got its first-ever reissue today. If you’ve never heard it, now is a very good time to get a look into the chemistry and songwriting magic that Stevie and Lindsey already had even before joining Fleetwood Mac (including the original version of “Crystal”). And full circle, you may remember that Miley and Stevie have a song together too.
