Psych rock greats Mercury Rev are gearing up to release Born Horses, their first album of original material in nine years, later this summer, and they’ve just shared a new single from it. “Ancient Love” is a spectral trip where frontman Jonathan Donahue waxes philosophical about the mysteries of the universe atop gorgeous, groovy backing, including some lovely muted trumpet.
“What we are today comes from our thoughts and perceptions of yesterday, and our present thoughts build our life for tomorrow,” Donahue says. “Our life is the creation of our mind which originates from ancient love.”
