Marquette, Michigan guitar-slingers Liquid Mike have announced a new album, Hell Is An Airport, due September 12. “Airports are these weird, intermediary spaces that have always made me feel like I’m stuck in limbo,” says bandleader Mike Maple. “This album deals a lot with themes surrounding feeling stuck and unable to crawl out. Airports are stressful and congested and bureaucratic and never sleep; I imagine hell operates very much like an airport.”
Along with the announcement comes two singles, “Selling Swords” and “Groucho Marx,” both of which find Liquid Mike in power-poppy, ’90s-style rock territory. If you’re into Guided by Voices, Weezer, Superchunk, Sugar, Sebadoh, so on and so forth, these should be right up your alley. Check out the videos for both songs below.
Liquid Mike are also doing a short tour with Drug Church this month, and then opening part of Descendents‘ recently-announced tour, including the shows in Montclair, NJ and New Haven, CT. All dates are listed below.
