Liars just released their new album TFCF last week, which is more subdued version of the band than we’ve encountered before, but still distinctly Liars. (Like John Peel liked to say of The Fall, Liars are always different, always the same.) They just shared the video for lead single “Cred Woes,” a captivating clip directed by Yoonha Park that, perhaps pulling from the song’s “minimum wage routine” chorus, follows a restaurant delivery guy on a day involving work, play, smoking, and running afoul of some gangsters. Monday night (8/28) Liars celebrated TFCF with a release party at Brooklyn Bazaar. Taking its cue from the album’s cover art, it was wedding themed, with cake, balloons, and frontman Angus Andrew DJing in a bridal gown and veil. Angus’ set was hyper-eclectic, including cuts from The Kinks, Kris Kross, Factory Floor, gregorian chanters Enigma, Jon Hopkins and more. A lot people just stood and watched him, some even sat on the floor — it was a weird scene, very Liars.
Liars’ U.S. tour, which has Angus backed by Brooklyn’s Bambara, hits Brooklyn’s Warsaw on September 21 with Yvette and “self-taught one-woman queer feminist yogi psych rocker” Idgy Dean (tickets). Updated tour dates are listed, along with a stream of TFCF, below.
