Land of Talk have announced the first vinyl reissue of their debut EP, 2006’s Applause Cheer Boo Hiss. Applause Cheer Boo Hiss: The Definitive Edition, due out on July 12 via Saddle Creek, includes an expanded 10-track version of the original EP, remastered, with 5 additional live tracks and remixes. It also has a remastered version of L’Aventure Acoustique, featuring acoustic versions of all songs of the EP, “Young Bridge,” “Some Are Lakes,” and a cover of Wintersleep’s “Weighty Ghost.” See the tracklist below.
“I feel like I’m never going to be fully satisfied with anything I do, but having said that, I’m super proud of the whole EP,” Elizabeth Powell says. “If that’s my legacy, I’m good.”
You can hear the remastered and acoustic versions of “Speak to Me Bones” from the Definitive Edition below. The acoustic version was mixed and engineered by Justin Vernon (Bon Iver), who also played guitar and produced Some Are Lakes, Land of Talk’s beloved 2007 debut full-length. “[Fugazi’s] ‘Smallpox Champion’ is a song that definitely inspired the outro to’‘Speak to Me Bones,’ which is a song that I would love to play live again, especially because I wrote it long before MeToo, and since the MeToo movement a lot of people have been naming their abusers, and the abuse of powers in the music industry,” Powell says.
2009’s Fun and Laughter EP and 2021’s Calming Night Partner EP are also getting their first vinyl release, together, as The EPs, also due out on July 12 via Saddle Creek.
