Hurray for the Riff Raff (Alynda Segarra) released their very good new album The Past Is Still Alive this year, and as Stereogum points out, Alynda just did an acoustic Public Opinion session where they played some new songs from the album and then covered Marcy Playground‘s 1997 grunge-folk classic “Sex and Candy,” joined by guitarist Johnny Wilson.
Alynda calls it their “go-to karaoke song,” and adds, “Talk about horny bisexual music.” It’s a faithful rendition, and as Alynda says, “it’s really fun to have a different perspective or voice” on a song you know and love. (Personally, I do know and love “Sex and Candy,” though clearly it has its haters.) Check out Hurray for the Riff Raff’s cover below.
