If you’re unfamiliar with Hold Your Horse Is, it was recorded solely by the core duo of guitarist Spencer Seim and drummer Zach Hill (later of Death Grips) and it makes a whole lot of intricate noise for an album made by just two people. It quickly helped define the sound of aughts-era math rock, and it’s remained highly influential. It’s very easy to spot this album’s impact on the past 21 years of bands with a penchant for noodly guitars, apeshit drumming, and atypical time signatures.
