Paramore’s Hayley Williams has been busy this year guesting with other artists–including appearances on the new Turnstile album and the upcoming David Byrne and Jay Som albums, as well as live appearances with Turnstile, Deftones, Failure’s Ken Andrews, and Rilo Kiley–and now she has introduced the world to a new solo song.
Titled “Mirtazapine,” it’s an ode to the antidepressant of the same name, and it finds Hayley going in a very ’90s, shoegazy alt-rock direction that would fit somewhere on the same spectrum as Garbage, Smashing Pumpkins, and The Breeders. “I could never be without her/I had to write a song about her,” Hayley sings, before erupting into a chorus of “Mirtazapine, You make me eat, you make me sleep/Mirtazapine, You let me dream, you let me dream.” It’s musically the most overt ’90s homage that Hayley’s ever released, and it comes as no surprise that it’s very fun to hear her do this kinda thing.
Hayley debuted the song on the Nashville public radio station WNXP, and it hasn’t otherwise been released yet but you can hear a couple rips of it below. It also seems like it’s going to be accompanied by a B-side called “Glum.” Stay tuned for more.
