Los Angeles-based musicians and songwriters Lance Shipp and Michelle Buzz have written, co-written, and produced songs for artists like Britney Spears, Kylie Minogue, and Rauw Alejando, and they’re also both halves of the theatrical alt-pop duo Haute & Freddy. They’ve signed to Atlantic with the project and announced their debut full-length album, Big Disgrace, due out on March 13 via their new label home. They haven’t revealed the tracklist yet, but you can see the cover art below.
They’ve also shared a new single, “Dance the Pain Away,” a blast of feel-good ’80s synth pop. “‘Dance The Pain Away’ is a feeling we’ve been dreaming of capturing in a song,” they say. “That bustling street, grime of the city, crowded dance floor, ready to forget the world kind of feeling. Right when we laid down the verse synth and the sporadic bass rhythm we were addicted to listening and trying to finish it. The chorus took so long to figure out. Like weeks. But one magical day it happened all at once on the mic and we were in shock at how good the song felt. It was everything we were feeling, all the overwhelmed emotions, the chaos of how life can feel, and at the same time, the ease of how it can all go away for a little while when you’re dancing.” Watch the video below.
