Bay Area punks Grumpster have announced that they’ll follow 2022’s Fever Dream with a new self-titled album on April 26 via Pure Noise (pre-order). The album was produced by The Movielife/I Am the Avalanche member Brett Romnes, and first single “Wither” finds them staying true to the kind of snotty underground pop punk associated with Lookout! Records and 924 Gilman, the latter of which they’ve frequently called home. Check out the song and its video below.
About the album, the band says, “Grumpster is an album mostly about mental health. It’s about the ebbs and flows of mental health, depression, anxiety, love, physical health, etc. This collection of songs is all about lived experiences, feelings, emotions, and how it felt to exist in general over the past couple of years.” And about “Wither” in particular, vocalist/bassist Donnie Walsh adds, “Over the past few years I developed some pretty intense issues with my appetite and eating in general and it was really starting to take its toll. I felt my body and brain getting weaker and it really felt like I was starting to wither away, hence the song.”
