As you may know, Donald Trump gave an executive order this past weekend which bans immigrants and refugees from seven countries from entering the US for 90 days. Many have pointed out that the ban specifically targets Muslims, though Trump argues, “This is not a Muslim ban, as the media is falsely reporting.”
Many protests have broken out all around the country, including here in NYC. There was a protest on Saturday at JFK Airport and on Sunday in Battery Park. A few musicians have also been protesting the ban by donating to CAIR (Council on American-Islamic Relations) and ACLU (American Civil Liberties Union).
Grimes tweeted on Saturday that she would match any donations to CAIR up to $10,000. The goal was quickly met and Grimes stayed true to her word:
thank you so much to everybody who donated, y'all just matched 10k in donations to CAIR … it means a lot <3 pic.twitter.com/T6lfhBJVUu

Sia did something similar, saying she would match up to $100K in donations to ACLU to “help our queer & immigrant friends.”
UPDATE: Sia fans helped raise over $300K and Sia sent her donation of $100K:
