Great Grandpa sign to Run For Cover, release epic new song “Kid”

Great Grandpa are back with their first new new song since 2019’s Four of Arrows, and it’s no exaggeration to call this an epic return. Over the course of five minutes and 20 seconds, the song moves from operatic Imogen Heap-meets-Queen vocoder to sweeping, Sufjan Stevens/Broken Social Scene-style orchestral indie rock to some intimate boygenius-y moments and more, and Great Grandpa swirl it all together into something that they can really call their own.

According to a press release, “Kid” came out of a batch of mostly-scrapped songs that the band was working on before they ended up taking a break, and once they regrouped, this one continued to stand out. The lyrics were written by band members Pat and Carrie Goodwin after the loss of their first pregnancy. “Things will happen when the timing is right,” says Carrie. “All good things in time define their meaning.”

In addition to releasing this new song, Great Grandpa have signed to Run For Cover and they’re promising that more new music is on the way. Stay tuned and check out “Kid” below.
